Blood rain will fall in several tourist regions of Spain

In the coming days, in such tourist regions of Spain as the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Galicia, and Extremadura, it will be possible to see a very unusual natural phenomenon – calima or blood rain. It is a fog-like concentrated reddish haze consisting of solid particles – dust, ash, and sand from the Sahara desert. It is carried by the wind over long distances. The reason for such unusual precipitation in Spain was DANA, an isolated high-pressure area covering the country’s western and central parts.

Calima affects climatic conditions — it preserves heat in the lower layers of the atmosphere, which leads to an increase in temperature. In addition, the abundance of fine dust in the air negatively affects its quality, and reduced visibility complicates logistics.
