Monasteries in Spain will open their doors to believers during Lent
More than 120 monasteries in Spain will open their doors to those wishing to join in prayer at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of Lent (March 7, 2024). This was made possible thanks to a prayer promotion campaign by the DeClausura Foundation. It is held under the motto “Slow down. Stop. Pray” as part of the Year of Prayer declared by Pope Francis.
“During Lent, to act means to stop. Pause in prayer to welcome the Word of God,” says the bishop of the Roman Catholic Church.
Monastic communities of various monastic orders from almost all provinces of Spain participated in the campaign: Benedictines, Augustinians, Cistercians, Dominicans, and many others. A complete list of monasteries and their addresses is on the official website of the DeClausura Foundation. Among them are monasteries in popular tourist centers such as Barcelona, Leon, Madrid, Malaga, La Rioja, Valencia, and Seville.
