In La Orotava, Tenerife, colorful carpets of flowers and sand are already being prepared in honor of the celebration of Corpus Christi
The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) is celebrated in May and June throughout Spain. But the best place to spend this day is La Orotava in Tenerife. The thing is that since 1847 there has been a tradition of Alfombras de La Orotava. On the eve of the holiday, the city streets are covered with tapestries of flowers. And on Town Hall Square a real masterpiece is being created — a huge carpet of volcanic sand of different shades, brought directly from Teide National Park. You won’t see anything like this anywhere else.
In 2024, Corpus Christi in La Orotava will be celebrated on June 6th. A religious parade will be held in his honor in the city. And then — a grand fiesta with performances by orchestras playing music on traditional Canary Island instruments and fiery dancing. On this day, the city’s hotels are usually full. Therefore, if you want to admire the unique carpets of La Orotava and take a stunning photo for your social networks, book your room in advance.
