Festival Internacional de Santander
Where: Santander (Cantabria)
When: from August 3 to 31
On Saturday, the Festival Internacional de Santander, one of the oldest music festivals in Spain, starts in the capital of Cantabria, Santander. In addition to solo, choral, symphonic and chamber concerts, its program includes opera, ballet and theater performances. The main venue of the Festival Internacional de Santander is the Palacio de Festivales, located on Calle Gamazo. But many performances take place in various historical places in the city and the region, including churches, castles, monasteries and parks. In 2024, two concerts will be held at the Centro Botín, a popular art gallery in Santander.

Agua Park Toledo
Where: El Casar de Escalona, Toledo.
When: from June 22 to September 3.
At the end of June, the summer season began at Agua Park Toledo, located in El Casar de Escalona. It occupies an area of 17,000 m² and, according to its creators, is the largest inflatable water park in Spain. Here you will find giant slides, swimming pools, a playground, relaxation areas with comfortable sun loungers, a sandy beach with a terrace and a restaurant with live music. Great news for those planning to visit the park with children — if they are under 100 cm tall, you do not need to pay for admission. There are discounts for children 100-140 cm tall, seniors and visitors with disabilities. You can book tickets on the Agua Park Toledo website.
Brilla Faunia
Where: Madrid.
When: from June 24 to September 1.
Every evening from the end of June to the beginning of September, the Faunia Zoo in Madrid shines with colorful lights. It hosts Brilla Faunia — a unique event that combines art and nature. You will see 200 interactive light figures, and you can also observe the behavior of animals at night. During the festival, photographers will be working in the park. At the end of the tour, you will see the photos in Foto Natura and, if you wish, you can buy them for 9 euros.
Tickets for Brilla Faunia can be booked on the event website. In addition to the usual passes, the organizers offer Entrada Brilla + Menú — tickets that include not only entry to the event, but also a children’s or adult menu in the park’s cafe.
Exhibition Hano. Half a century of posters and illustrations
Where: Madrid.
When: June 21 to September 15.
The Regional Library of Madrid (C. de Ramírez de Prado, 3) is hosting a free exhibition dedicated to the work of the artist Francisco Fernández-Zarza Pérez, nicknamed Hano. He created hundreds of stunning movie posters that adorned the streets of the city in the mid-20th century, as well as numerous book illustrations, caricatures and cartoons. His masterpieces illustrate everyday life in Madrid and reflect the changes that the capital’s inhabitants have experienced over the generations. The exhibition presents the artist’s best works, selected from the 7,000 copies stored in the library’s archives. It can be visited from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00, and on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 14:00.
IX edición de las Jornadas ibero-romanas laminitanas
Where: Alhambra (Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha)
When: August 2 to 4
Want to see gladiator fights and a real Roman wedding? Then head to the Alhambra this weekend, where the city will return to the Ibero-Roman era for three days. The city will host the popular historical festival IX edición de las Jornadas ibero-romanas laminitanas. It reminds us that the Alhambra, known as Laminium, was one of the most important cities of the Roman Empire.
Guests of the IX edición de las Jornadas ibero-romanas laminitanas will have a rich program. The most interesting events of the festival are historical reconstructions:
- battle for the capture of the city;
- gladiator fight;
- funeral ritual of an Iberian warrior;
- Iberian initiation ceremony;
- Roman religious ritual.
This year, for the first time, viewers will be shown a real Roman wedding. The organizers have also planned excursions to the Municipal Archaeological Museum and historical sites, tastings of traditional dishes and archaeological workshops. Those interested in Iberian and Roman cultures will be able to attend historians’ seminars.
