Certamen del Queso Cabrales 2024

Where: Arenas de Cabrales (Asturias)

When: August 25.

The famous Cabrales cheese competition will be held for the 52nd time in the town of Arenas de Cabrales in Asturias. The event, announced by the Festival of Tourist Interest, is held in the framework of the Week of Culture, all the activities of which are also dedicated to cheese. Its program includes exhibitions, free tastings and concerts. 

Cabrales is a blue cheese labeled PDO, which is made from raw sheep, cow and goat milk. It is known for its unusual salty-sharp flavor. 

The cheese competition will be held at the Parque de Arenas. After the mayor’s speech, at 13:00 the ceremony of awarding prizes and cups will begin. And at 14:00 there will be an auction to sell the winning cheese. Perhaps he will be able to break the record of last year, when the lot was sold for 30,000 euros.

Starlite Occident

Where: Marbella (Malaga, Andalusia)

When: June 14 to August 31

The largest boutique festival in the world, Starlite Occident, is nearing completion. The project, created 40 years ago by Alfonso Gogenloe, Julio Iglesias and Plácido Domingo, has become one of Europe’s most important cultural events. Starlite Occident brings together music, cooking, fashion and art. Don’t miss the final concerts of the 2024 edition:

  • August 23, 20:00 — Ana Mena;
  • August 24, 20:00 — Sebastián Yatra;
  • August 26 and 27, 20:00 — Melendi;
  • August 28, 20:00 — Omar Montes;
  • August 30, 20:00 — Julio Iglesias Jr;

On Friday, Julio Iglesias Jr. — son of Julio Iglesias and brother of Enrique Iglesias — will take the stage at the festival. He will perform not only his own songs, but also interpretations of his father’s classic hits, including To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before and Hey. Tickets can be booked at starlitefestival.com. They cost between 30 and 220 euros.

Sala Barcelona — Música la Castell de Montjuïc

Where: Barcelona (Catalonia)

When: August 1 to September 16

The Sala Barcelona — Música la Castell de Montjuïc concert series continues in Barcelona. On August 23 at 21:00, the band Ketekalles will perform at the Castell de Montjuïc. The musicians will present their second album «Antiheroína», which combines rumba, funk, hip-hop, rock, pop and Latin rhythms. 

On August 30, two popular bands will take the stage at once. First, a trio from Madrid, VVV [Trippin’you], will perform. Their music covers such directions as jungle and dubstep combined with post-punk and nihilistic lyrics. Next to take the stage will be Tetas Frías. The band works in several genres at once – black metal, Midwestern emo, tontipop and teknaso.

Vistiendo un jardín exhibition

Where: Madrid 

When: May 23 to September 29

Don’t miss the exhibition of historical clothing and textiles at the Museo del Traje (Costume Museum) in Madrid. It focuses on the evolution of floral motifs that emerged between the Baroque and Enlightenment eras, and illustrates the development of 18th and 19th century fashion. The exhibition includes about 120 exhibits, including historical costumes, textiles, paintings, ceramics, and decorative arts. Some of the exhibits were donated from the National Museum of the Prado, the National Archaeological Museum, the National Museum of Decorative Arts and the Royal Botanical Gardens.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 to 19:00, on Sunday — from 10:00 to 15:00. Tickets cost 3 euros. Order them on the museum’s website cultura.gob.es.

Noches Mágicas 2024

Where: Barcelona (Catalonia)

America’s Cup Sailing Opening Ceremony

Where: Barcelona

When: from August 22

On August 22, the 37th America’s Cup, the world’s oldest sailing regatta, kicks off in Barcelona. Until October 27, six teams will compete for the 100 Guineas Cup, one of the most prestigious awards in the sport. The competition will begin with a four-day preliminary regatta.

In honor of the America’s Cup, an official Race Village has opened on the Moll de la Fusta waterfront. It features large screens for watching the races, a food court serving Catalan cuisine, and a stage for awards and concerts. Visiting the village is free, as is watching all the America’s Cup races. You can watch the races from the beaches between Port Vell and Port Olímpic.

Festival Internacional de Teatre Amateur de Girona (FITAG)

Where: Girona (Catalonia)

When: August 27-31

At the end of August, theater lovers flock to Girona for the Festival Internacional de Teatre Amateur de Girona (FITAG). This is a great opportunity to see exciting productions by amateur companies from all over the world. Actors who come to the festival not only play on stage, but also share their experiences and socialize with the public. 

Some productions will be free of charge, while tickets for the rest of the performances and shows cost only 3 euros. You can buy them at the box office and on the website www.fitag.cat. Here you can also find the festival program. 

Gala Folklórica Internacional de Ronda

Where: Ronda (Malaga, Andalusia)

When: August 30 to September 1

At the end of August, the Gala Folklórica Internacional de Ronda, the oldest folklore festival in Andalusia, will take place in Ronda for the 50th time. Dance groups from around the world will perform on the stage, which is set up in the bullfighting arena Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda. The event is part of the Feria y Fiestas de Pedro Romero (Pedro Romero Fair and Fiestas), one of the most important events in the region.
