Spanish golfer Carlota Ciganda will take part in the international tournament Solheim Cup 2024
Spanish titled golfer Carlota Ciganda will take part in the Solheim Cup 2024 Women’s International Golf Tournament from 13 to 16 September as a member of the European team.
The Solheim Cup is a prestigious transatlantic team competition, which is held every 2 years. It involves two continental teams. The European team consists of the top 12 European golfers from the Ladies European Tour (LET). The American team is made up of the top 12 American golfers from the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour (LPGA).
Carlota Ciganda was the real star of last year’s Solheim Cup tournament, which took place in 2023 on the grounds of the luxurious Finca Cortesin Golf Hotel & Spa in Andalusia. The Spanish golfer earned the decisive point for the European team by beating Nelly Korda. The tournament thus ended in a 14-14 draw, and the European team retained the Solheim Cup.
In 2023, the Solheim Cup was declared an event of exceptional public interest by the Spanish government.
From 2024 onwards, the Solheim Cup will be held on even-numbered years. This time the venue will be Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, located in Gainesville, Virginia, USA.
The Solheim Cup was first held in 1990 in Florida. It was named in honour of its founder, Norwegian-American businessman and golf club designer Carsten Solheim.
