United Airlines is launching its first scheduled flight from northern Spain to the United States. The new route will connect Loiu Airport in Bilbao with Newark Airport in New York. Direct flights will be available from June 1, 2025 and will operate three times a week — Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The new flight will operate until September 24, 2025. Departure from Bilbao is scheduled for 12:30 noon with arrival in New York at 15:00 local time. Return flights will depart at 21:15 with a landing in Bilbao at 10:45 the following day. Boeing 757 aircraft have been selected to operate the route.

According to Marcel Fuchs, United’s general manager of international sales, the new route will allow residents of Bilbao and northern Spain easy access to the U.S., as well as provide convenient connections to 59 destinations throughout the Americas. In addition, he noted that U.S. travelers will have the opportunity to not only visit Bilbao, but also explore the scenic coastal regions of northern Spain.

The new flight is part of United Airlines’ 2025 summer program. In addition to Bilbao, the airline will increase frequency on existing routes and will serve Madrid, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca.

The launch of the flight from Bilbao to New York was made possible thanks to years of work by local authorities and promotion of the city at international aviation forums. The increased flow of American tourists to Bilbao and the Basque Country played a key role in the decision to open the route. The new flight will be a convenient option for both locals and tourists wishing to explore both sides of the Atlantic.
