November 28 in Barcelona will light up Christmas lights
Barcelona continues to prepare for the upcoming Christmas holidays. On November 28, a Christmas lights lighting show will be held on Rasseig de Gràcia. Last year this event was attended by more than 15,000 people, and this year the city authorities expect even more interest. The program of the event is still unknown, but the Barcelona City Council promises to reveal details soon.
This year, Barcelona’s Christmas lights can be admired for longer. Previously, they burned only until 23:00, and only sometimes – until midnight. Now they will be switched on according to the following schedule:
- Sunday-Thursday — from 17:30 to 01:00;
- Friday, Saturday, as well as December 25 and 31 and January 5 — from 17:30 to 02:00.
In 2024, Barcelona will be illuminated by 110 kilometers of Christmas lights – 6 kilometers more than in the past. The facades of 14 buildings in the city will be illuminated, among them: Torre de les Aigües del Besòs, Torre Llobeta, Casa Golferichs in the Eixample neighborhood, and the Vallcarca viaduct. In addition, the municipality has laid light routes through landmark stores in the Gòtic and Raval neighborhoods. Two of them will pass by famous establishments: the Cafè de l’Opera, La Colmena, El Champagnet, Casa Almirall and the Marsella bar.
But that’s not all the novelties of 2024. In addition to the illumination, LED figures of reindeer and other Christmas characters will be placed on the streets of 10 neighborhoods of Barcelona. A total of 22 decorations will be installed, each 2.5 meters high.
The traditional creche in Sant Jaume Square this Christmas will be replaced by a giant luminous star with a diameter of 9 meters, with 20 rays. It is very similar to the star that crowns one of the towers of the Sagrada Familia. The installation can be seen from November 29 to January 5. In addition, every half hour from 18:30 to 22:00 every day, a light and music show will take place in the square. The music will not be played through speakers. To listen to it, spectators will have to scan a QR code, access an interactive map and connect the sound through their smartphones.
All the wonders of festive Barcelona can be seen during the night tour «Christmas Lights» on an open double-decker bus. It will drive along the main streets and avenues of the city, past the illuminated landmarks: the Sagrada Familia, the Arc de Triomphe, the Casa Batlló and others. During the trip passengers will be able not only to admire the beauty of the night city, but also learn about its Christmas traditions. There is an opportunity to choose the language of the tour – Catalan, Spanish or English. Tickets can be booked at holabarcelona.com. The fare for adults is 15 euros, for children over 4 years old — 10 euros.
