Summer continues: which beaches in Spain are good for swimming in October

Spain’s beaches continue attracting tourists in October thanks to the mild climate and warm water for swimming. This is a great time to extend your summer and spend it on the shores of the gentle sea, enjoying the gentle sun. In October, there are fewer tourists on Spanish beaches, the sweltering heat has ceased, and the prices for hotels and restaurants become more pleasant.

The Spain Voyages team has compiled a list of the best beach destinations in Spain in October, which you will enjoy visiting the most.

Water temperature in October: about 22–23 °C

Near the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is Playa Las Teresitas — an ideal beach for a holiday in October. In the summer, it is not easy to find a place here, and in the middle of autumn, it becomes uncrowded.

In the sixties of the last century, golden sand from the Sahara was brought here and palm trees were planted. One of the best beaches in Tenerife was equipped here, with straw parasols, bars, and restaurants.

Playa de Papagayo (Lanzarote, Canary Islands)

Water temperature in October: about 22–23 °C

Lanzarote has a great location and excellent beaches. One of the best is the atmospheric Papagayo. It is located in a secluded bay, so there is no wind or waves. This makes it a great place for swimming in October.

You can only get to Papagayo Beach by private transport, and you will have to walk another 15 minutes from the parking lot. But the time spent is fully compensated by the pleasure of emerald water and soft golden sand.

Playa de las Conchas (La Graciosa, Canary Islands)

Water temperature in October: about 22–23 °C

The wild and picturesque beach of Las Conchas is mesmerizing at any time of year. The water in all shades of blue merges with the sky, and the soft sand seems golden. In autumn and winter, it is easy to find privacy here. To get here, you will have to walk from the main village for about 45 minutes. By bike, this journey will take 20 minutes. You can also get to the beach by 4WD taxi — the only transport allowed on the island.

Swimming in October in Las Conchas is pleasant. The water retains heat due to the southern location of La Graciosa. However, you need to be careful with the waves and the lower current.

Playa Mal Pas (Benidorm, Alicante)

Water temperature in October: about 22–23 °C

Cozy and picturesque Playa Mal Pas is a favorite beach of Benidorm locals. It is not easy to find: it is lost in a small bay between Playa de Levante and Playa de Poniente. The Mirador del Castell viewpoint, located on the far side, can serve as a landmark.

The miniature Playa Mal Pas, only 120 meters long, has soft sand, beautiful turquoise water, and excellent infrastructure. This is one of the best beaches in October in Spain to enjoy the warm sea, sunny landscapes, and excellent service.

Playa Macarelleta (Menorca, Balearic Islands)

Macarelleta Beach is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain. And if you have the opportunity to come here in October, then do not miss your chance. This place is a real paradise with white cliffs, powdery sand, and turquoise water of the Mediterranean Sea.

You can get here on foot. The path passes through beautiful places and viewpoints with breathtaking views. The 40-minute walk will not tire you out if you wear appropriate footwear.

Playa de Formentor is one of the most photographed and popular beaches in Mallorca. It is surrounded by lush pine forests, the coast dazzles the eye with white sand, and the turquoise water gives pleasure. Situated in a bay, Formentor Beach is practically wave-free and offers a picturesque view of the Tramuntana Mountains. From the local landmark — the Formentor Lighthouse (Faro del Cap de Formentor) — in good weather, you can see Menorca.

Without a doubt, this is one of the best beaches in Spain to visit in October, when there are noticeably fewer vacationers.

Playa de los Genoveses (Almería, Andalucía)

Water temperature in October: about 21-22 °C

The wild Genoveses Beach, located near San José, is the pearl of the Almeria coast. It is part of the Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Níjar, where prickly pears, agaves, and esparto grow on the dunes. Crystal shallow waters and a golden beach stretching for more than a kilometer attract holidaymakers here. In summer it is always crowded, but in October it becomes empty.

To have a comfortable time, take with you what you need, including water and food, as there are no facilities on this beach.

The incredible Bolonia beach has been repeatedly voted the best in Spain. This place is ideal for windsurfing due to the constant wind. If you just want to walk around, and enjoy the warmth and sun, then choose a quiet day for your trip.

Playa de Bolonia is famous for its impressive dune (Duna de Bolonia) and the ruins of the Roman city of Baelo Claudia (Conjunto Arqueológico Baelo Claudia). You can also see Africa from its shores.

Bolonia Beach stretches for 4 kilometers, including a nudist area. It is enchanted with golden sand and powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean. On its southeastern side, there are bars, restaurants, and rental shops where you can rent equipment for water sports.

Water temperature in October: around 20 °C

The small and atmospheric Caleta Beach is located in the historic center of Cadiz. It is located in a natural harbor, so there are no waves and the water in the ocean is warm even in autumn.

Playa La Caleta is only 300 meters long, covered with golden sand, and there are bars and restaurants nearby. It is located between the fortresses of San Sebastian and Santa Catalina, which gives it a special charm. Be sure to come here to admire the magical sunset and drink a delicious cocktail.
