Christmas trains have already started their journey through the streets of Barcelona. For many residents and visitors of the city they have long been one of the most anticipated events of the pre-holiday days. The trains, whose routes pass through the historic center and landmark neighborhoods, are a great opportunity to admire Barcelona’s Christmas illuminations and its sights.

This year, 13 Christmas trains are running in Barcelona. Their routes cover the areas of Camp de l’Arpa, Fort Pienc, Sarrià (passing through the shopping center Eix Comercial), Sant Martí, El Clot, El Camp de l’Arpa del Clot, Poblenou, Sant Martí de Provençals, Sant Antoni, Eixample, El Carmel, Horta and Sant Andreu de Palomar.

Of the 13 trains scheduled, nine will run from December 21 to 27 and until January 4 or 5. However, there are also those that will only run for two or three days, such as Poblenou, El Camp de l’Arpa, Gaudí Shopping and Fort Pienc.

Sagrada Familia has its own Christmas train. Tickets for it cost 5 euros, but you can get them for free by making a purchase at stores that cooperate with the cathedral. This train runs every day except December 25, 26 and January 1, from 10:30 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:30. On December 24 and 31, it will run from 10:30 to 14:00. Children under the age of ten can travel for free.

Another interesting option is the Gaudí Shopping and Encants Nous train. It runs on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, running along the main shopping streets of the Gaudí and Encants Nous1 axis.
