It is no longer possible to make TikTok videos at the Sagrada Familia station on the L5 line of the Barcelona metro. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) introduced such a ban in April 2024 to avoid accidents and injuries. The fact is that a new viral trend has appeared on TikTok. Visitors place their smartphones on the steps of the escalator to capture footage of the Sagrada Familia in the background as they ascend to the surface.
The huge number of TikTokers wanting to follow the fashion trend began to cause inconvenience to other passengers and caused a flood of complaints. In response, TMB installed signs at the subway exit leading to the popular landmark warning that video recording at public transport stops is prohibited.
«To avoid safety issues and any accidents as there are many visitors around the Sagrada Familia, a sign has been installed and security personnel are on site,» explained a TMB spokesperson.
Violation of the ban does not threaten tourists with fines, but they will be stopped by local authorities. That said, you can easily recreate a similar version of a viral trend by simply holding your phone, using a selfie stick, or asking a friend to help.
