According to the decision of the city authorities, from the 1st of October, the tourist tax for visitors to Barcelona will be increased to 4 euros per day. Currently, this amount is 3.25 euros. The tax will be charged only when the tourist is officially accommodated in a hotel, hostel, guesthouse, or any other type of accommodation.
Thus, the tourist tax in Barcelona will reach the possible legal maximum. This will bring the city an additional revenue of 20 million euros a year. It is planned to spend this revenue on the development of the transport system, security, cleaning, and street lighting. Additional funding will also be provided for projects aimed at improving public spaces and stimulating local trade in areas with high tourist flows.
