According to the results of the prestigious European Awards 2023, Clos Galena, located in the municipality of El Molar (Priorat, Tarragona, Catalonia), was recognized as the best winery in the world. The nomination recognizes the success of Clos Galena owner Miguel Perez and his wife Merche Dalmau. Arriving in Priorat in 1999, they fell in love with its picturesque landscapes and decided to establish an ecological winery here. The couple has dedicated many years to creating unique wines that combine unique taste, environmental standards and local traditions. Unfortunately, Miguel passed away in 2013. But Merche Dalmau with a team of professionals and winemaker Tony Coca continue to make his dream come true.
What makes Clos Galena special is its commitment to ecology and respect for nature. They use organic farming methods and do not use pesticides, preferring innovative and safe processing methods. To produce elite wines without harming future generations, experts take into account all aspects of the winemaking process – from soil fertility to water quality.
Clos Galena creates special wines. The popular varieties Clos Galena, Galena, Formiga de Vellut, Formiga de Seda and Crossos impress with their rich color, intense aroma of ripe fruit and herbs, balsamic notes, and a fresh and long finish. In recognition of the high quality of the products, Formiga de Vellut was included in the menu of the 2017 Nobel Prize banquet.
One of Clos Galena’s activities is wine tourism. For many years, it has hosted tours with wine and cheese tastings for guests from all over the world, as well as breakfasts and lunches. You can book a tour on the winery’s website.
