The authorities of the Community of Madrid have canceled the traditional festival of cattle herding that was supposed to take place this Sunday. The reason for the cancellation was an outbreak of bluetongue, a viral disease that affects ruminants. Although no cases of the disease have been detected in and around Madrid, the authorities decided not to hold the festival out of caution. Also canceled were some events dedicated to the Fiesta de la Trashumancia — a sheep walk on Oct. 18 and “Shepherds for a Day” October 19. Read more at diario.madrid.es.

This weekend, the Castillo de Almodovar will host the traditional Jornadas Medievales de Recreación Histórica. Guests are invited to travel back to the 14th century for a few hours to learn more about the daily life of people at that time. Among the promised entertainment are falconry, musical concerts, a mock castle storming and medieval dances. Visitors will be entertained by soldiers, spinners, laundresses, shepherds, monks, beggars, jesters, scribes, cooks and innkeepers — all of whom could be found in medieval towns.
The Castillo de Almodovar, built in the 8th century, is where the cult TV series Game of Thrones was filmed. In season 7, the castle played the role of Highgarden, the family nest of the Tyrells. And its dungeons served as a setting for scenes in Casterly Rock, the Lannister castle.

Great news for all fans of Japanese animation, culture and, of course, music. The renowned dance company Momix has confirmed that the long-awaited production ALICE will be available to see at Teatro Auditorio San Lorenzo de El Escorial before Christmas. Tickets for the show are already on sale at entradas.com, priced at €35.
ALICE is the latest creation of the collective’s director Moses Pendleton. The production, inspired by Alice in Wonderland, combines illusion, acrobatics, magic, fantasy and stunning visual effects. The dancers wow the audience not only with their skills, but also with original costumes created by Phoebe Katzin.

The Chirivella Soriano Foundation presents the 12th edition of the World Press Photo exhibition. The exhibition will bring together photographs of the most significant events of 2023, reflecting the human dramas of our time from different perspectives. The works emphasize human suffering caused by military conflicts, natural disasters and diseases. You can visit the exhibition from Tuesday to Sunday on your own or with a guide.
