Eurovision 2024 Grand Final: Switzerland wins in dramatic fight

The Grand Final of Eurovision 2024, which took place on May 11 in Malmo, Sweden, was intense and eventful. 25 countries competed for the main trophy of the 68th song contest — a crystal microphone, and the right to host Eurovision on their territory next year. The real drama unfolded before the eyes of the audience live, because almost until the very end of the competition it was not clear which of the five main favorites would become the winner.

According to the Eurovision rules, the winner is determined by the sum of televoting points and points from the professional jury of all participating countries of the current year. In addition, viewers from states not participating in the competition can express their opinions through an online vote (“Rest of the World”), which weighs as an additional country. The innovation is that the voting of TV viewers starts not after the performances of all participants, but before they begin. This gives the first singers a chance to score more points.

Switzerland dominated the voting results, but high televoting scores for Ukraine, Croatia, Israel, and France kept the Malmö Arena tense. As a result, the winner was the representative of Switzerland Nemo with the song The Code, who received 591 points: 365 from the national jury and 226 from the audience.

Representatives of Spain, the group Nebulosa, charged the entire Malmö Arena hall with their energy during their performance — the audience danced with pleasure and sang along to the song Zorra. Spain finished 22nd in the grand final, receiving 30 points.

The final results of all participants look like this:

  1. Switzerland — 591 points
  2. Croatia — 547 points
  3. Ukraine — 453 points
  4. France — 445 points
  5. Israel — 375 points
  6. Ireland — 278 points
  7. Italy — 268 points
  8. Armenia — 183 points
  9. Sweden — 174 points
  10. Portugal — 152 points
  11. Greece — 126 points
  12. Germany — 117 points
  13. Luxembourg — 103 points
  14. Lithuania — 90 points
  15. Cyprus — 78 points
  16. Latvia — 64 points
  17. Serbia — 54 points
  18. Great Britain — 46 points
  19. Finland — 38 points
  20. Estonia — 37 points
  21. Georgia — 34 points
  22. Spain — 30 points
  23. Slovenia — 27 points
  24. Austria — 24 points
  25. Norway — 16 points

But Spain is optimistic about the future, as it still has to host Junior Eurovision 2024 in the fall. The competition will occur on November 16 at the Caja Mágica in Madrid.

A small funny thing happened on the Eurovision 2024 stage. The winner Nemo, during the traditional final performance of his song, accidentally broke the crystal trophy of the competition. But the organizers were prepared for such a situation and had already replaced the broken crystal microphone with a new one.
