Museum NOU (Spanish: Museo NOU) opened in Barcelona in early July. The museum is located in the old neighborhood of El Raval. The building is connected to a wing of the old monastery church of St. Augustine, which symbolizes the link between the past and the present. Museum NOU’s mission is to demonstrate the continuity of art history from the 20th century to the present and explain these principles in an educational and entertaining way.

The museum’s first exhibition, titled SUR PLAY, features works by 25 contemporary artists from around the world, as well as digital copies of classic Surrealist works. The goal of SUR PLAY is to show how this movement has influenced the work of contemporary artists, most of whom do not identify themselves as Surrealists. Visitors to the exhibition will enjoy a fascinating dialog between artists from different eras.
