Nadal announced the end of his career after the Davis Cup

Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest tennis players in history, announced the end of his sports career. In a video message published on social networks, the athlete admitted that it was not easy for him to make this decision, but his physical condition does not allow him to perform at the same level.

«Hi everyone, I’m here to inform you that I’m retiring from professional tennis, Nadal said in a video published on social media. – Obviously it’s a difficult decision that took me some time to make. But in this life everything has a beginning and an end. And I think it’s the right time to end a career that has been long and much more successful than I ever imagined».

Nadal admitted that the last two years have been particularly difficult for him. Injuries have severely limited his opportunities on the court, and he was no longer able to play at a level he considered acceptable for himself. The 38-year-old last took to the court at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the second round. After that, he missed crucial tournaments – the U.S. Open and the Laver Cup.

Nadal said his last tournament will be the Davis Cup, which will be held from Nov. 19 to 24. The Spanish team, in which the tennis player will play, will play against the Netherlands team in the final part of the tournament. It is symbolic, because one of the first major victories of the tennis player was the Davis Cup in 2004.

During his more than twenty-year career, Nadal has become a legend in world tennis, winning 22 Grand Slam titles. This is the second result in the history of men’s tennis after Novak Djokovic. In addition, the athlete won 14 titles at the French Open. This achievement could not be surpassed by any tennis player. In total, he won 92 tournaments during his career, including 36 Masters 1000 series titles.

In addition to winning Grand Slam tournaments, Nadal has also achieved success at the Olympic Games. In 2008, he won the gold medal in singles at the Beijing Olympics. And in 2016 — became the champion in doubles at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Rafael has also finished the season at number one in the world rankings five times and remained at the top for 209 weeks. He became one of the few players to collect a career Golden Slam — winning all Grand Slam tournaments and Olympic gold.
