There are only 4 days left until the start of La Tomatina, the funniest tomato fight in Spain. On August 28, fans of unusual entertainment from all over the world will gather in the small town of Bunyol in Valencia to throw tomatoes at each other. The festival, which began in 1945 as a regular food fight, has become an important part of Spain’s cultural heritage.

Tomatina begins on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with a competition called Palo Jabón. Participants must climb a greased pole to remove a ham from it.

At 11:00 a.m., several trucks filled with overripe tomatoes will enter the plaza. And from that moment on, the most interesting part begins — the tomato battle. For an hour, the air is filled with flying tomatoes and joyful shouts.

When the battle is over, the participants can rinse off with water from hoses brought by the locals. And then the fun continues in the streets of the city, where various entertainment activities are planned.

To participate in the Battle of the Tomatoes, you need to buy tickets at the box office or on the official website of the event atomatina.info. Tickets purchased online must be printed and exchanged at the authorized exchange points located in Plaza 5 de Marzo and Carrer Ruiz Pons.
