Plane tickets for Spanish airlines will become more expensive in March 2024

From March 2024, flights on Spanish airlines will cost travelers more. State-owned public airport operator Aena has received government approval to increase its fees by 4.09%. Consequently, all airlines in Spain will have to pay more to Aena for the operation of terminals and runways, baggage handling services, etc. To compensate for these additional costs, carriers are forced to raise air ticket prices.

A representative from Aena said that this economic decision was justified by inflation, particularly the rising cost of aviation fuel. The move was met with strong opposition from the country’s low-cost airlines.

However, despite the increased flight fares, Aena President Maurici Lucena expressed his confidence that Spanish airports will continue offering tourists much more favorable prices than their competitors from other European countries.

In more good news for travelers in Spain, Aena has promised to cut fares by between 15% and 70% at several airports. For example, in the Balearic and Canary Islands, as well as in Ceuta and Melilla. The percentage reduction will vary depending on specific flight routes.
