Yesterday, May 7, the first semi-final of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Malmö, Sweden. Representatives from 15 countries competed for participation in the grand final, which will take place on Saturday, May 11. Based on the results of televoting of the participating countries, viewers of Great Britain, Germany and Sweden, as well as online voting ( «Rest of the World»), the right to continue the fight for victory in Eurovision was given to:
Five countries dropped out of the competition: Australia, Azerbaijan, Poland, Iceland and Moldova.
During the first semi-final, representatives of two Big Five countries — Germany and Great Britain, as well as a representative of the host country — Sweden, presented their songs to the public. All of them, according to the rules of the song competition, automatically qualify for the grand final.
We will see the same out-of-competition performance from Spain, one of the Big Five, on Thursday, May 9, during the second semi-final. And today, May 8, Spanish electro-pop group Nebulossa will take part in two dress rehearsals, starting at 15:45 CET and 21:00 CET.
During the second dress rehearsal, the jury of each participating country, plus Spain, Italy and France, will vote for their favorites in the second semi-final. The results of this vote will only be used if there are technical problems with the televoting during the live broadcast of the semi-final on May 9.
