The opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris took place on July 26. But the competition began earlier — on July 24. During the first three days of the Olympics, the representatives of Spain were able to experience both the joy of victory and the bitterness of defeat, as well as win their first medal. Judo, women up to 48 kg. In the 1/16 finals, Spanish judoka Laura Martinez Abelenda defeated Chilean athlete Mary Di Vargas. Having reached the 1/16 finals, Laura won again. Her opponent was Serbian judoka Milica Nikolic. In the quarter-finals, the Spaniard defeated the athlete from Kazakhstan Abiba Abuzhakynova and advanced to the semi-finals, where she lost to Bavuudorjiin Baasankhuu (Mongolia). Laura also failed to win the fight for bronze. She lost to French judoka Shirin Boukli.
