Results of the Spanish team at the 2024 Olympics for July 25-28

The opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris took place on July 26. But the competition began earlier — on July 24. During the first three days of the Olympics, the representatives of Spain were able to experience both the joy of victory and the bitterness of defeat, as well as win their first medal. Handball Spain-Brazil, preliminary stage group B (women). The handball players of the Spanish national team lost to their rivals from Brazil. The match ended with a score of 29:18.

Equestrian sport, individual eventing. The competition was attended by Carlos Diaz Fernandez and Esteban Benitez Valle, who took 24th and 58th places, respectively.

Rowing, singles, women. In the first run, Virginia Diaz Rivas showed the second result with a time of 7:37:30 and advanced to the next stage.

Basketball Australia vs. Spain, group stage, Group A (men). The 2024 Olympic Games have kicked off the men’s basketball tournament. The game day began with the Australian team’s victory over the European champions, Spain. The Australians won with a score of 92:80.

Artistic gymnastics, qualification, subdivision 1, (men). The competition was attended by Ray Zapata, Nestor Abad, Nicolau Mir, Thierno Diallo, and Joel Plata. Ray Zapata, who won silver at Tokyo 2021, after a brilliant routine, gets into the final, which will take place on Saturday, August 3. But the Spanish men’s artistic gymnastics team failed to reach the team final of the Games. Rowing, Double Sculls, Heats (Men). In the third heat, Spanish rowers Aleix Garcia Pujolar and Rodrigo Conde Romero took 2nd place.

Football, Spain vs. Dominican Republic, Group C (Men). Spain beat the Dominican Republic 3-1 in a group stage match. Goals were scored by Fermin Lopez, Alex Baena and Miguel Gutierrez.

Water Polo, Spain vs. France. The Spanish and French national teams played a match in the first round of the group stage of the women’s water polo tournament. The Spanish team managed to beat the hosts of the competition with a score of 15:6. Now Spain shares first place in Group B with the United States, which beat Greece with the same result.

Canoe slalom, kayak single (women). In the first run, the Spanish athlete Mayalen Churro took 17th place. In the second run, she managed to improve her result and move up to 13th place.

Judo, men’s up to 60 kg. The 1/8 final match among men’s up to 60 kg ended with the victory of the Spaniard Francisco Garrigos over the Belgian Jorre Verstraeten. Having reached the quarterfinals, the Spanish athlete won again – this time over the Japanese Ryuju Nagayama. In the semi-finals, Francisco lost to the judoka from Kazakhstan Eldos Smetov. And in the fight for bronze, Garrigos managed to win the first medal for the Spanish team, winning the fight with Georgian Georgiy Sardalashvili.

Judo, women up to 48 kg. In the 1/16 finals, Spanish judoka Laura Martinez Abelenda defeated Chilean athlete Mary Di Vargas. Having reached the 1/16 finals, Laura won again. Her opponent was Serbian judoka Milica Nikolic. In the quarter-finals, the Spaniard defeated the athlete from Kazakhstan Abiba Abuzhakynova and advanced to the semi-finals, where she lost to Bavuudorjiin Baasankhuu (Mongolia). Laura also failed to win the fight for bronze. She lost to French judoka Shirin Boukli.

Tennis, Argentina-Spain, 1st round, pairs (men). Carlos Alcaraz and Rafa Nadal began their debut in doubles with a victory in two sets (7-6 and 6-4) over Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.

Road cycling, Individual race, men, final. In the final competition, Spanish cyclist Oyer Lazcano took 26th place.

In extra time, thanks to effective throws from Rodriguez and Megan Gustafson, Spain managed to snatch the victory.

Beach volleyball, women’s tournament, preliminary stage. Following three sets, the pair from Spain, Liliana Fernandez and Paula Soria Gutierrez, won against their opponents from Italy, Valentina Gottardi and Marta Menegatti, with a score of 2:1. Set results:

  • Italy 22:24 Spain;
  • Italy 21:9 Spain;
  • Italy 14:16 Spain.

Final score: Italy 57:49 Spain.

Water Polo, Men’s Tournament, Preliminary Round, Group B, Spain vs. Australia. The Spanish men’s water polo team made its debut against Australia, one of the weakest opponents in the group. True to form, the Spanish team beat the Australians 9:5. Goals were scored by Alvaro Granados Ortega, Roger Tahall Compte, Alberto Munárriz, Marc Larumbe and Felipe Perrone.

Boxing, Preliminary Round, 1/8 finals, Men up to 92 kg. Spanish professional boxer of Cuban origin Enmanuel Reyes defeated his Chinese opponent Han Xuezhen on points in the 3rd round.

Handball, women’s tournament, preliminary round, Angola — Spain. The Spanish women’s handball team suffered its second defeat at the 2024 Olympic Games in the match against Angola. The Spanish team lost with a score of 21:26.

Canoe slalom, Kayak single, women, semi-finals, final. In the semi-finals, Spanish canoeist Mayalen Churro took 11th place, which gave her the opportunity to advance to the final. In the final competition, which took place on the same day, she took 12th place.

Judo, men up to 60 kg, 1/16 finals. Spaniard David Garcia Torne, silver medalist of the 2023 European Championships, lost to judoka from Kazakhstan Gusman Kyrgyzbaev.

Equestrian sport, individual eventing, cross-country. In the most difficult test – cross-country cross-country – Spanish riders Carlos Diaz Fernandez 35 and Esteban Benitez Valle took 35th and 50th places, respectively.

Swimming, 100 m backstroke, men, qualification. Spain was represented in the competition by Hugo González de Oliveira, the 2024 world champion and 2021 European champion. In the fourth swim, he took 5th place and reached the semi-finals, where he again took the fifth step, losing to athletes from Italy, France, South Africa and the USA.

Skateboarding, Street, Women, Preliminary round. Skateboarders Daniela Terol and Natalia Munoz took 13th and 14th places, respectively.

Surfing, Shortboard, Women, Round 1. Participant of the second heat Hanire González Echabarri managed to take 3rd place and move on. In the second round, in the competition with the Israeli athlete Anat Lelior, Hanire took 2nd place. Her colleague Nadia Erostarba was more fortunate. In the seventh heat, she was first and advanced to the 3rd round.

Tennis, Men’s Doubles, First Round, Spain vs. Italy. In the first doubles round, Spaniards Pablo Carreño Busta and Marcel Granollers beat their opponents from Italy Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli with a score of 40:30.

Tennis, Men’s Singles, First Round. In the first round of the Olympic tournament, Jaume Munar lost to German Alexander Zverev. The fourth racket of the world confidently won by the results of two sets with a score of 6:2, 6:2. In the match Pedro Martinez (Spain) – Andrea Vavassori (Italy), by the results of three sets, the Italian won (6:4, 4:6, 6:4). But Rafael Nadal was able to beat Hungarian Marton Fucsovics and advanced to the second round of the Olympic Games, where he will meet Serbian Novak Djokovic. 

Tennis, women’s singles, first round. In the first round of the Olympic Games, the representative of Spain Sara Sorribes Tormo lost to tennis player from the Czech Republic Barbora Krejcikova. But Kristina Buksa defeated her opponent – Petra Martic from Croatia in two sets with a score of 6:4, 6:3. 

Football, Women’s Tournament, First Round, Group C, Spain vs. Nigeria. Alexia Putellas’ goal against Nigeria gave the Spanish women’s football team their second victory at the Olympic Games (1-0). The Spanish are now leading the group and advancing to the second round.
