Spain at the 2024 Olympics — Results for July 29

The sixth day of the Olympic Games in Paris has ended, full of sporting events, wins and losses. We have prepared for you a brief overview of the results of all sporting competitions in which Spanish athletes participated on July 29.

Rowing, women’s doubles, repechage. Esther Brice Zamorano and Anna Cid took 2nd place and advanced to the semi-finals.

Boxing, super heavyweight (over 92 kg), men, preliminary matches of the 1/8 finals. Spanish boxer Ayub Gadfa met with Kazakh Kamshybek Kunkabayev. The outcome of the fight was decided in the third round — Gadfa won on points with a score of 3:2.

Handball, men’s tournament, preliminary round, Sweden — Spain. The Spanish men’s handball team lost the match against Sweden with a score of 26:29.

Beach volleyball, men’s tournament, preliminary round. Pablo Herrera and Adrián Gavira suffered a defeat in their debut match. Their opponents from Holland, Yorick de Groot and Stefan Boermans, won with a score of 21:15 in both halves. Pablo Herrera has already declared that these were his last Olympic Games. He has already become the oldest player competing in the beach volleyball category.

Beach volleyball, women’s tournament, preliminary round. The Spanish duo Daniela Alvarez Mendoza/Tania Moreno lost to the Swiss pair Nina Brunner/Tanja Hüberli 12:21/19:21 in their debut match at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Canoe slalom, canoe singles, men, semi-finals and finals. After finishing second in the semi-finals in canoe slalom, Catalan Mikel Trave became a real candidate for a prize place. But in the final, the athlete finished fifth due to a 2-second penalty, which prevented him from receiving a medal.

Judo, men’s up to 73 kg, 1/16 and 1/8 finals. Salvador Roca of Spain defeated Gambian judoka Faye Njie and advanced to the 1/8 finals. But here he suffered a setback. Unable to defeat Mongolian Erdenebayar Batsai, Roca dropped out of the competition.

Equestrian sport, individual eventing, jumping. Esteban Benitez Valle took 49th place in the show jumping qualification.

Mountain bike, cross-country, men, finals. Spanish rider David Valero Serrano missed out on the prize winners, taking 10th place. Medals went to athletes from Great Britain (gold), France (silver) and South Africa (bronze).

Table Tennis, Men’s Singles, Round 2. Alvaro Robles, in his individual tournament debut, beat Austria’s Daniel Habesohn 4-4 to advance to the Round of 16.

Sailing, Windsurfing, Women, First Series. Pilar Lamadrid Trueba finished 9th overall.

Sailing, Skif, Men, First Series. Spain’s Diego Botin and Florian Trittel finished third after three races.

Swimming, Women’s 400m Individual Medley, Qualification. Emma Carrasco Cadence finished seventh in her group with a time of 4:43.13 to be eliminated.

Swimming, Men’s 800m Freestyle, Qualification. Spain’s Carlos Garachs Benito finished second in his series.

Swimming, Men’s 100m Backstroke, Final. Madrid native Hugo González de Oliveira was left without a medal, finishing in 6th place. Gold went to Italy’s Thomas Ceccon, silver to China’s Xu Jiayu, and bronze to American Ryan Murphy.

Swimming, 100m backstroke, women, qualification and semi-final. Carmen Weiler takes 3rd place in her heat and makes it to the semi-finals. In this heat, the athlete managed to break the Spanish record in the 100m backstroke, showing a time of 59.57. In the semi-final, which took place on the same day, Carmen managed to take 5th place.

Shooting, trap, men, qualification. Representatives of Spain Alberto Fernandez and Andres García took 14th and 18th places, respectively.

Water polo, women’s tournament, preliminary round. The Spanish women’s water polo team was able to defeat athletes from the USA — the winners of the last three gold medals — with a score of 13:11.

Surfing, shortboard, men, round 2. In heat 6, Andy Kriere took second place, losing to Mexican Alan Cleland Quiñones.

Tennis, women’s doubles, first round. Spanish tennis players Cristina Buksa and Sara Sorribes beat Italians Lucia Bronzetti and Elisabetta Cocciaretto in two sets with a score of 6:1, 6:2.

Tennis, mixed doubles, first round. Marcel Granollers and Sara Sorribes are eliminated from the competition, losing to Australians Ellen Perez and Matthew Ebden. The outcome of the match was decided in just two sets — 3:6, 4:6.

Tennis, Women’s singles, second round. In singles, Cristina Busca suffered a setback. She lost to Canadian athlete Leyla Fernandez in two sets with a score of 6:7, 3:6.

Tennis, Men’s singles, second round. Rafael Nadal, on whom the Spaniards had high hopes, lost in the match to Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic with a score of 1:6, 4:6. In the evening, the Spaniard played another individual match of the second round against tennis player from the Netherlands Tallon Griekspoor. Here, too, the desired victory awaited Carlos Alcazar. Having beaten her opponent with a score of 6:1, 7:6, he goes through to the 1/8 finals of the draw for men’s singles.

Fencing, sabre, individual championship, women, 1/16 finals. Lucia Martinez-Portugues dropped out of the competition after losing her match against Hungarian tennis player Anna Marton.

Fencing, foil, individual championship, men, 1/16 finals, 1/8 finals. In the 1/16 finals, Carlos Llavador defeated tennis player from South Korea Ha Tae-gyu with a score of 15:13 and went through. But in the 1/8 finals, the Spaniard was defeated by Mohamed Hamza and dropped out of the competition. Given the morning defeat of Lucia Maria Portugues, Spain lost the chance to win the award in this sport.

Field hockey, women’s tournament, group stage, Spain — USA. The match between the women’s teams of Spain and the USA in field hockey ended in a draw — with a score of 1:1. After yesterday’s victory over Great Britain, the Spanish women earned their fourth point in the group stage and took first place in the group.
