Spain will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup
On Wednesday, December 11, the FIFA Congress officially confirmed that the 2030 FIFA World Cup will take place on three continents — Europe, Africa and South America. It will bring together for the first time six countries — Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. The tournament will open in Uruguay, which hosted the very first World Cup in 1930.
The three opening matches will be played in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay from June 8-9, 2030. And the other 101, including the inaugural, will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco from June 13 to July 21. For Portugal and Morocco, it will be the first experience of organizing the World Cup, while Spain has already hosted it in 1982.
The main matches of the tournament will be held in the major stadiums of nine cities in Spain:
- Metropolitano (Madrid);
- La Cartuja (Sevilla);
- RCDE Stadium (Barcelona);
- San Mamés (Bilbao);
- Estadio Gran Canaria (Las Palmas);
- La Rosaleda (Malaga),
- Anoeta (San Sebastian),
- Riazor (Coruña)
- Nuevo Romareda (Zaragoza).
Where the 2030 FIFA World Cup Grand Final will be held is not yet known. The Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, the Camp Nou in Barcelona and the Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca (Morocco), which, however, has not yet been built, are competing for the opportunity to host it.
