Vueling is the first airline in Spain to launch a facial recognition system called fly by face. Passengers can now board a plane without presenting their boarding pass or documents. To do this, you must register once in the Vueling app and go through biometric verification, which you can do at home before your flight. For future flights, you will need to activate your account after completing registration. All data is stored on Aena company servers and is not transferred to third parties. Vueling representatives claim that the new biometric system will speed up boarding and improve passenger safety.
Pilot testing of fly by face began in November last year. The system has been implemented at five airports in the Aena network: Barcelona-El Prat, Madrid-Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza. Tests are planned to take place in the coming weeks at airports in Northern Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Representatives of the Vueling company assure that technological innovations are only additional opportunities for passengers and not an obligation. And those who wish to check in for their flight in the traditional way will be able to do so.
