Spanish restaurants have been named among the world’s top ten best restaurants

In early June, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants published its list of 2024 winners. Five Spanish restaurants were among the world’s best, and two of them topped the ranking. First place went to Disfrutar (Barcelona), which was also named Europe’s best restaurant of 2024. Chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas offer two 30-course menus — The Classic and The Festival.

Second place was awarded to Asador Etxebarri from Achondo (Basque Country). Gourmets from all over the world come to this quiet village surrounded by mountains to taste the unusual dishes created by chef Victor Arginsonis. Asador Etxebarri has consistently topped the list of the world’s best restaurants and has only dropped out once — in 2009.

Fourth place on the list of 2024 winners goes to Diverxo (Madrid). Its chef Dabiz Muñoz describes his cuisine as hedonistic, creative and unpredictable. Everything in this restaurant — from the unusual décor to the dishes with a unique combination of flavours — can be called a work of art.

Quique Dacosta restaurant in Denia (Valencia) is on the 14th place in the ranking of World’s 50 Best Restaurants-2024. And 28th place was awarded to Elkano in Getaria (Basque Country). Thus, the share of Spanish restaurants in the world ranking is 10%, which gives a good idea of the evolution of the country’s gastronomy over the past few years.
