The beach hotels of the major chains will be open all year round

Major Spanish hotel chains Meliá, RIU, and Barceló have announced that some of their beach hotels will continue to operate even after the season is over. This is part of a deseasonalisation strategy — to reduce reliance on the peak summer months and attract tourists all year round. According to economic newspaper Expansión, Meliá hotels in Calvià, Menorca, and Ibiza will remain open until November, while those in Palma will remain open all year round. Hotels in Marbella and Torremolinos will continue to welcome guests until the end of 2024.

The RIU chain will also continue to operate its hotels in the low season. Three hotels in Mallorca — RIU San Francisco, RIU Concordia, and RIU Festival — will be open all year round. This is due to the high footfall on the island, even in the colder months. This move allows the tourist infrastructure to be maximised during periods with fewer guests.

Other hotel chains in Spain have joined this trend. For example, Iberostar extended the season in the Balearic Islands until November. And Palladium or Vincci decided not to close hotels in popular beach resorts until the end of the year. According to representatives of Vincci, many hotels in the south of Spain and the Canary Islands in September were more than 90 per cent full. If weather conditions remain favourable, it is expected that high demand will continue in October.
