The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games was held in Paris

After 16 days of fighting for medals in 329 competitions, it was time to say goodbye to the Olympics. On the evening of August 11, the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics was held in Paris at the Stade de France. Along with tens of thousands of spectators, French President Emmanuel Macron, Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and UEFA President Gianni Infantino were present in the stands.

The program began with a performance by French singer Zaho de Sagazan, who sang the song “Under the Sky of Paris” with a choir. Then the traditional parade of athletes began. It was opened by a new French legend, swimmer Leon Marchal, who won four gold medals at the Games. One of the sports that generated the most enthusiasm among Spanish fans was athletics. That is why the flag bearers of Spain at the closing ceremony were María Pérez, who won gold and silver medals for marathon walking, and Jordan Diaz, the new Olympic champion in the men’s triple jump.

The parade of athletes was followed by the futuristic production “Records” by director Tom Jolly. It was a fantastic story of the disappearance and revival of the Olympic Games. The role of the main character — the Golden Wanderer – was played by the French artist Arthur Cadre.

After the performance, there was a live concert by the French rock band Phoenix, winner of the Grammy Award. Also performing at the ceremony were singers Yseult, Billie Eilish and Angèle, the legendary rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers and rapper Snoop Dogg.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the transfer of the Olympic flag. After the descent, the mayor of Paris handed it over to his colleague from Los Angeles. Then Tom Cruise came down from the roof of the stadium on a rope, took the flag and rode away with it on a motorcycle. From that moment on, the countdown to the Olympics in Los Angeles began. They will open on July 14, 2028 — in 1,434 days.
