The immersive exhibition Los mundos de Alicia has opened in Barcelona

The unique immersive exhibition Los mundos de Alicia («Alice’s Worlds») is open in Barcelona until February 16, 2025. It immerses guests in the world of one of the most famous literary works, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The event, organized in collaboration with London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, takes place at the CaixaForum Cultural Center, located in the Montjuïc district.

In the exhibition Los mundos de Alicia, visitors pass through five thematic sections. Each of them reveals a different aspect of Lewis Carroll’s works and their influence on culture and art. The exhibition route begins with a slide symbolizing a rabbit hole, which instantly immerses visitors in an adventurous atmosphere. First, they enter the «The Invention of Alice» section, dedicated to the literary, social and political context of the era in which the books were written. Here visitors find themselves in a Victorian library, where they learn how the image of Alice came to be and what significance it had in the literary tradition.

Next comes the section «Through the Screen», dedicated to movies based on the fairy tale. This part of the exhibit is about the influence of directors and artists on Alice’s visual perception. Here guests get acquainted with a variety of cinematic compositions — from classic screen adaptations to the popular version from Disney studio, which has become a symbol of mass culture.

The third section — «Alice, Door to Other Worlds» — demonstrates how images and themes from the book have made their way into art and culture. Visitors will be able to see works by Salvador Dalí and Max Ernst, who were inspired by the surrealistic aspects of the story to create their works. This section shows how profound Carroll’s influence was on the work of different generations of artists.

The Alice on Stage section highlights theater, music, and dance productions based on Carroll’s work. It features costumes, posters and videos that show how Alice’s story inspired plays, operas, ballets and satirical works.

The final section, «Becoming Alice», is devoted to the contemporary perception of the heroine and her significance for different generations. It shows how Carroll’s images and themes continue to resonate in today’s culture and how Alice has become a symbol with which people around the world identify.

The Los mundos de Alicia exhibition is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. A ticket costs 6 euros, but CaixaBank customers and children under 16 can visit for free. If you have a pass, you can also see the other exhibitions of the cultural center.
