The Michelin Guide has recognised the most outstanding hotels in Spain and awarded them with the Michelin Key awards

Spain is the third country to be selected for the new MICHELIN Guide award, the MICHELIN Key. This distinction is awarded to hotels that provide travellers with the most unforgettable experiences and turn hospitality into an art form. 97 hotels in Spain have received the MICHELIN Key in 2024.

As Gwendal Pulleneck, International Director of MICHELIN Guides, said: «The MICHELIN Key is a clear and reliable indicator for travellers. Just as the MICHELIN star recognises the best restaurants, the MICHELIN Key recognises the most exceptional hotels around the world. It also recognises the teamwork of dedicated and enthusiastic hospitality professionals.»

Michelin Keys are awarded after anonymous stays at hotels by MICHELIN Guide experts. As with the stars for restaurants, the maximum number of keys a hotel can receive is three. And Spain has a lot to be proud of. Of the 97 awarded hotels, 5 received this highest mark:

  1. Torre del Marqués Hotel Spa & Winery (Aragon) – a historic boutique hotel opened in an 18th-century tower building in the charming Spanish countryside.
  2. Terra Dominicata – Hotel & Winery (Catalonia) is an adults-only hotel set in a former 12th-century monastic farm at the foot of the Montsant mountain range. It is a peaceful haven in one of the world’s most prized wine regions.
  3. Abadía Retuerta LeDomain (Castile and Leon) is a former 12th-century Romanesque abbey amidst a sea of vineyards, converted into a luxury boutique hotel. Its Refectorio restaurant has been awarded one Michelin star and two Repsol Sun stars, as well as being Green Star recognised.
  4. Mandarin Oriental Ritz (Madrid) is a luxurious palace of the Belle Époque whose history dates back more than 110 years. It is located in Madrid’s famous Golden Triangle of Arts and has repeatedly hosted royalty and dignitaries from around the world.
  5. Atrio Restaurante Hotel (Extremadura) is the epitome of luxury and haute cuisine in the heart of the fortress city of Caceres. Its restaurant has been awarded three Michelin stars.

Two Michelin keys have been awarded to 12 hotels in Spain:

  • Casa Beatnik Hotel (Galicia)
  • Mandarin Oriental Barcelona (Catalonia)
  • Cap Rocat (Balearic Islands)
  • La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, Mallorca (Balearic Islands)
  • Four Seasons Hotel Madrid (Madrid)
  • Rosewood Villa Magna (Madrid)
  • Marbella Club Hotel (Andalusia)
  • Hotel Can Cera (Balearic Islands)
  • Pepe Vieira Restaurant & Hotel (Galicia)
  • Akelarre (Basque Country)
  • Hotel Can Ferrereta (Balearic Islands)
  • Mas de Torrent Hotel & Spa (Valencia)

One Michelin Key has been awarded to 80 hotels in Spain from the most diverse regions of the country. The leaders in the number of awarded hotels were Barcelona (14 establishments), Madrid (10), Palma de Mallorca (7) and Donostia-San Sebastian (4).

Hotels are evaluated according to five criteria:

  • Destination in itself: the hotel contributes to the local experience.
  • Excellence in architecture and interior design.
  • Quality and regularity of services, comfort, and service.
  • Unusuality, reflecting the personality of the establishment, its unique character.
  • A correspondence between the quality of the experience and the price paid.

Michelin Guide is also opening its online booking platform. Travellers can use the convenient mobile app.
