The Spanish resort of Marbella is recognized as the best tourist destination in Europe

European Destinations has named Marbella the best European destination for 2024. More than a million travelers from 172 countries took part in compiling the rating. In addition to Marbella, the top ten included Monaco, Malta, Geneva, Batumi, Riga, Madeira, Florence, London, and Reykjavik.

Marbella, which has become a favorite 5-star tourist destination in 2024, is located in the province of Malaga, which is part of the Andalusia region. The city is famous for its picturesque sandy beaches and first-class golf courses. Players here not only enjoy professional gaming but also stunning panoramic views of the Sierra Blanca Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.

Survey respondents also noted Marbella’s excellent food scene. In addition to hundreds of small eateries serving everything from Mediterranean and Thai cuisine to paella and luscious tapas, the city has three Michelin-starred restaurants. It is therefore no surprise that Marbella is considered one of the most popular destinations for food tours.

About 100 years ago Marbella was a tiny fishing village. Its only attraction was the remains of Roman baths from the 3rd century. It became a popular resort in the 50s of the 20th century when the local nobility decided to invite rich friends to visit. In just a few years, all the plots on the coast were bought up and built up with luxury villas. Since Spain did not take part in the extradition of criminals, European rich people and Mafiosi began to flock to the resort town. The legendary arms dealer Monzer Al-Kassar, who was called the Prince of Marbella, also lived here.
