Tour de France-2026 will start in Barcelona

The Cycling Tour de France 2026 will start from Barcelona. This was announced by the city’s mayor Jaume Colboni, who signed an agreement with Christian Prudhomme, the current director of the Tour de France, to host the event. The race will start on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Two more races, scheduled for July 5 and 6, will also take place in Catalunya.

No details of the future competition have yet been revealed. Christian Prudhomme said only that there will be «two full stages and an exit on the third day from Catalonia» before the cyclists head to France. The only detail is that the Barcelona event will include a climb up the Montjuïc mountain.

The city last hosted the cycling race in 2009. Since then, for years the Barcelona City Council has been negotiating with the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) to bring the Tour de France to the city. Finally, their efforts have been crowned with success. «Barcelona will host four of the most important sporting events in the world: the Olympic Games, the World Cup, the America’s Cup and the Tour de France. This is a dream come true that confirms Barcelona’s vocation as an international sports capital», said Jaume Colboni. The mayor recognized that the event will cost the public treasury seven million euros, to be paid by the City Council, the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Generalitat.
