US airlines have increased the number of direct flights to Spain

Spain is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists from the United States. In this regard, the American airline United Airlines on 24 May launched a new direct service between San Francisco Airport and Barcelona — Josep Tarradellas El Prat Airport. These flights will operate until the end of the holiday season in October. The flights are operated using Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with a capacity of 276 seats.

Also in early June, United Airlines will resume non-stop flights between Newark Liberty Airport, serving New York City, and Palma de Mallorca Airport. It is the only direct air route that connects the Big Apple and the Balearic Islands. Flights will operate on Boeing 767-400s three times a week in each direction. This route is not seasonal and is available until the end of March 2025.

Another United Airlines route, direct flights connecting Newark Liberty Airport and Tenerife South Airport, will operate during the same timeframe. Departures will be operated by Boeing 757-200 aircraft. From Newark Liberty: in the summer season on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, in the winter season on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. In the reverse direction: Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays in the summer season and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the winter season.

Also, responding to increased demand, United Airlines has increased the number of flights on its seasonal direct route between New York and Malaga. From 3 May to 25 September 2024, Boeing 757-200 aircraft will operate daily between Newark Liberty Airport and Malaga — Costa del Sol Airport.

This trend has been picked up by another American company. On 31 May, Delta Air Lines will begin operating a second daily flight from New York to Barcelona on a Boeing 767-300. It will depart from John F. Kennedy International Airport.

It was also reported that American Airlines is considering launching a route from Miami to Palma de Mallorca.
