Valencia city center closed to cars on weekends

The Valencia City Council has decided to close Plaza del Ayuntamiento and its surrounding streets to vehicular traffic during the Christmas weekend. The restrictions began on December 13 and will continue on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until January 12, 2025. In addition to Town Hall Square, they will also affect the streets of la Paz, Marqués de Dos Aguas, Marqués de Sotelo, Xàtiva, Sant Agustín and San Vicente.

According to City Councilman Juan Carlos Caballero, the main purpose of the restrictions is to create a large pedestrian area «so that families can enjoy Christmas and the Christmas atmosphere, the lights, the tree and the creche as they stroll through the streets». In addition, since many tourists arrive in Valencia before Christmas, he called for a preference to travel by public transportation rather than their own cars.
